A Telephoto Winter Hike at Crow-Hassan Park Reserve
Limiting Myself to One Lens
In this video, I share a recent winter hike at Crow-Hassan Park Reserve in Minnesota. To challenge myself, I decided to shoot with only one lens: my 150-500mm telephoto zoom. This forced me to focus on composition and find unique perspectives within the landscape.
The park, with its vast open spaces and diverse habitats, provided ample opportunities for the telephoto lens to shine. I was able to capture distant scenes with impressive compression, isolate interesting details, and even capture some wildlife.
Despite the lack of vibrant colors typical of autumn, I found beauty in the subtle contrasts of winter – the stark white of birch trees against the deep browns of the prairie, the delicate patterns in the grasses, and the unexpected pops of color from berries and the rising sun.
This hike was a reminder that even in the depths of winter, there's always something to discover and capture through the lens of your camera.
